The 2012 Bayside Library Service has launched its 5th Writing Competition as part of Library and Information Week. The competition closes at 4pm, Tuesday 31 July with a total of $3,000 in prizes on offer.
According to a survey undertaken by Bayside libraries, crime is the most read genre with female borrowers outnumbering men almost two to one.
All categories of the Writing Competition will be judged by published Bayside authors and poets with local true crime author, Vikki Petraitis, judging the Bayside Writers category. Vikki is a veteran writer of nine books and has recently re-released her best-seller, The Frankston Serial Killer.
Students aged 10 years and older, who live, work or go to school in the City of Bayside, are encouraged to enter one of the three writing categories based on age. Prizes include $250 worth of books or a $250 book voucher, depending on the category entered, with the winning student’s school receiving the same prize.
Writers and poets of all ages can enter the Bayside Writers and Bayside Poets categories. Each carry prizes of $450 with a special $300 prize that can only be won by a local Bayside resident.
Winners will be notified by phone or email and all winning stories and poems will be published on Bayside City Council’s website - http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/writingcompetition and read out on the Write Now program on community radio Southern FM (88.3FM).
