Brazen Snake Books is looking for flash and short fiction stories to include in our fall anthology, "Listen to the Leaves". Story themes should be based on the cover art below - the interpretation is up to the author. Please read our Submission Guidelines (linked above) before you send in your story. Email submissions only. We are looking for five short stories (between 1,001 and 8,000 words) and four flash fiction stories (between 800-1000 words).
The reading period is from Aug. 13 - Aug. 31st. Authors will be notified during this time as to whether your story has been accepted or not, and any requests for edits will be sent out by August 31st as well. The anthology will be released on September 28, 2012 in ebook and print formats.
GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
GENRES CONSIDERED: All genres geared toward adults are welcome (no young adult or children’s stories, please).
GENERAL/FORMATTING
- Acceptable document types are .doc, .otf, .rtf
- Documents must be attached to an email, not pasted into the body of the email
- Author name and title should be at the top of the first page
- Author bio should be included after the end of the story
- No tab or spaced indents - use the ruler bar or formatting menu to create indents
- Times New Roman font preferred
PAYMENT/LICENSING
- Rights are purchased for a flat fee only. No royalties will be paid after publication.
- Payment amounts are: Flash fiction: $10 each. Short stories: $25.
- Payment will be made via Paypal or bank check, whichever the author prefers, one week before publication.
- Rights required are first digital and print publication rights. Brazen Snake Books will retain non-exclusive perpetual print and digital rights. All other rights revert to the author upon publication. (which means you are free to re-sell or re-publish your story as you wish after the BSB version is published).
- Stories submitted to Brazen Snake Books must be original work not published anywhere else, including your own web site/blog.
- The following statement must be copied/pasted above the title/author name on the first page of your submission.
